Saints? Sunday? and NOT Football? Really? Is that possible? It sure is.
I spent yesterday trolling through Austin with a pair of good friends. The mission, that we chose to accept, was from Charlie… I mean Saint Arnolds. The video (here) detailed out six hints, shrouded with verbose vocabulary, and clever albeit subtle (hit your self in the head when it clicked) clues. My buddy Josh and I set out one afternoon to “solve” the clues, and then map out the most efficient route to collect all the necessary pictures. Callie came too. We were met with good success and batted a staggering .833. However, one pesky clue was not becoming apparent. We tried our first two guesses, and were met with a closed for benefit bar, and one that just wasn’t right. So, amidst the cold rain, we huddled in Callies two door Civic and set out to solve the final clue. Each of searching on our “smart” phones. Callie just began calling out sports bars and once we heard the right one Josh and I knew it immediately. Short trip there (2.8mi according to GPS) and we had our last locale. Decided to reward ourselves with some crisp Lawnmower, Thirsty Goat, and…. I actually didn’t hear what Josh ordered.
Most of the places that were on the list were quick picture spots, in other words parking illegally on the streets of Austin to run into a bar and get a picture with a longhorn mounted on the wall. But one location was a little more challenging, the item that we needed resided against a wall placed next to a booth full of that establishments customers. Now, as we walked in, we noticed this immediate problem and had to surmise a solution. So I went up and flat out told the group what we were doing, and for which brewery. They thought it was a really cool idea and let us move them out of the booth so that we could get our picture.
Now, evidentially, Saint A has been doing these for quite awhile. The reward for successful completion is that you get invited to some sort of “double secret” party, and a shot at winning a home kegerator. So, with the three of us competing, we figure that obviously one of us will soon have our own home draft system on which we can serve optimal temperature craft beer.
I highly recommend keeping an eye out on Saint Arnolds website for their next scavenger hunt, and even signing up for their mailing list. It was an absolute blast, and certainly will not be the last time I compete in one.
Plus, how can you not love a scavenger hunt that involves beer?!?
