While it is unfortunate Rhinegeist was shutdown on their distributorship, it also closed an ABInBev loophole.
I think the better approach is to raise the threshholds underwhich you can self distribute as a brewery. One thing I have found is that not all breweries are created equal in terms of logistical ability. It takes a significant amount of capital to self distribute effectively, that being said however, it is nice to pocket that extra margin, even if your costs are higher.
It is an interesting aside when they begin talking about legalizing marijuana as well. A short section in a semi-lengthy article, but one to consider as part of the “big picture”.
Look at the campaign donations. Talk about some serious financial clout. Look where the money is being made in the industry. It’s definitely not in the production or retail tiers.
