Comments Off on SABMiller Gets Takeover Approach From Anheuser-Busch InBev

Well this could be interesting. http://www.wsj.com/…/sabmiller-gets-takeover-approach-from-…
Anti-Trust is the first thing to come to mind, but also, one needs to note that SABMiller is a separate entity than what we have in the United States. Here, we have MillerCoors which is a joint venture that was formed in 2008. (Quick Wiki for background: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MillerCoors)
This will be interesting to watch, and I will surely be watching for October 14th to see what happens.
I suspect AB is going to have to shed some brands to get this Anti-Trust compliant. A year ago I theorized that if (when) this merger was proposed that Heineken would step in and pick up a lot of ancillary breweries from ABInBev. However, how will their recently purchased stake in Lagunitas Brewing Co affect their involvement?
Exciting times in the beer industry!
