If you have ever drank in bars outside of the United States you have experienced this, and likely didn’t realize it. In Europe especially the brewery / distributor will own the bars / pubs and you will only find their products on tap.

I always make it a point to look at which distributor runs the tap wall in an establishment. It’s annoying to only see one or two houses distributing to an establishment. But it can be due to a number of reasons. In some cases, the bar is too lazy to deal with multiple houses and there is no foul play.

Other times, it is maliciously dictated by one house what beers can and will be on draft at a bar.
